The data research agency Omdia announced the global smartphone market shipment rankings in 2021. The top 10 are Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, vivo, OPPO, Realme, Motorola, Honor, Huawei, and Tecno. On January 28, 2022, IDC, a world-renowned statistical agency, officially announced the global smartphone shipments in 2021 and the global smartphone shipments in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Statistics show that in 2021, global smartphone shipments will reach 1.3548 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5.7%.

For the whole year, Samsung still ranked first, with a market share of 20.1%, up 6% year-on-year; Apple was second, with a market share of 17.4%, up 15.9% year-on-year; Xiaomi was third, with a market share of 14.1%, up 29.3% year-on-year.

OPPO and vivo ranked fourth and fifth respectively, with a global market share of 9.9% and 9.5% respectively, with year-on-year growth of 20.1% and 14.8% respectively.

Among them, Xiaomi's global shipments will increase the most in 2021, reaching 29.3%.

From the perspective of the fourth quarter, Apple's shipments in the fourth quarter surpassed Samsung, ranking first, and Xiaomi third.

Market research firm Counterpoint released the latest data showing that in 2021, China's mobile phone market shipments will drop slightly by 2%, while OPPO's shipments will increase by 26% in the whole year, ranking second with a market share of 21%.

According to a report released by research firm Canalys, in the fourth quarter of 2021, the global smartphone market shipped 363 million units, a slight increase of 1% year-on-year. For all of 2021, global suppliers shipped 1.35 billion smartphones, up 7% year-over-year and close to 1.37 billion in 2019.

The report said that since all suppliers were affected by the severe supply shortage throughout the year, the ranking of the top five smartphone manufacturers in 2021 remained unchanged compared with 2020. Among them, Samsung still topped the list with nearly 275 million smartphone shipments in 2021, maintaining a global market share of 20%.

Apple had a strong holiday quarter, driven by its new iPhone lineup, which brought full-year shipments to 230 million units, an increase of 11% year-over-year. Xiaomi shipped more than 191 million smartphones. OPPO and vivo ranked fourth and fifth, with smartphone growth rates of 22% and 15% respectively.

Canalys analyst sanyam chaurasia said, "Although the recovery of the smartphone industry has always been challenging, many suppliers performed very well in 2021, achieving double-digit growth in smartphone shipments. The main growth drivers of the industry come from Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. However, there is also a serious chip shortage in this field, especially the low-end 4G chipsets. Looking ahead, as chipset suppliers increase production and 5G chipset prices drop, The supply imbalance will gradually ease. This will help 5G equipment become the next sales driver in 2022. "

Le Xuan Chiew, research analyst at canalys, commented, "it is not surprising that Apple has set a record in the field of smartphones this year, but Samsung has been seriously hit by supply and production problems this year, and its key best-selling model Galaxy a series has experienced a supply shortage in the world.
