Today we are going to fix a MacBook Pro 1990, which won't turn on because some red wine was spilled accidentally on the keyboard. After opening the back cover, we can spot traces of red wine at a glance. In particular, there is corrosion on both sides of the fan.
Watch the video:
First we need power down the battery and do a quick measurement to check if there is a short circuit on the hard disk circuit. Confirm whether the data is lost.
After measurement, we find there is no obvious damage to the hard disk circuit. Then we continue to disassemble and remove all accessories. After removing the motherboard, we can see that there are obvious signs of burning on the reverse side. And the keyboard connections are all burnt. Therefore, the damage caused by red wine to the motherboard is indeed quite large.
Now we're going to use a lot of alcohol to clean the entire motherboard. After cleaning, place the motherboard in the oven to bake for more than 5 hours. This will evaporate any remaining moisture inside the motherboard. The baked motherboard can greatly improve our repair rate.
Because there are many parts corroded by the motherboard. We prepared a piece of the same disassembled motherboard to replace all corroded parts. More than ten years of repair experience tell us none of these small capacitors can be let go. Although it's not bad now, it is easy to short circuit again in future use, which will lead to non startup. So we need replace all of these small parts.
After the main board is repaired. Let's connect it to the screen for testing. We can see that the current should have gone up. The screen can be displayed normally. We can also enter the system normally. And the data of this MacBook is also preserved.
Next we start to replace the keyboard. We can see that the keyboard is obviously burnt. After the keyboard is replaced, we start to install the MacBook. First install the fixing screws, and then connect all flex cables. Finally, we clean all the places that should be cleaned inside the machine and install back cover screws. Now let's test it after booting. The MacBook has been repaired successfully.
The water damage of MacBook is not easy to repair, and even a little liquid can cause serious problems. If the MacBook is damaged due to water ingress, professional personnel are recommended to repair it.
